Adventures in Home Owning

It has now been two years since Jen and I purchased a house here in Japan.

This was many years after an ill-fated house sitting experience led us to conclude that we would never, ever buy a house.

While these last two years have been great, I guess I should have known better than to go back on a promise, even one to myself. The house is still doing just fine. The problem is the land that the house sits on. That isn't... or potentially isn't so great. We may or may not have lignite coal mines running under (or near) our property. Which is kind of not a good thing in an earthquake prone country.

So, now I get to live the complete expat experience. Not only living abroad, not only owning a home abroad, but also participating in a class-action lawsuit abroad. I'm interested to see how that all works out.

For those that can understand Japanese or just want to see a brief glimpse of our house (and a nice interview with our great neighbors), here is a link to a Japanese news broadcast about our neighborhood and the potential of coal mines I put up on youtube.

Well, wish me luck.
